Friendship & Connection vital to a relationship:
As adults in relationships, our ability to connect and attach to others (and our partners) is vital to a healthy relationship. According to Prior and Glasser (2006), much of our attachment style is influenced by our experiences growing up. 65% of individuals can be classified as having a "secure attachment style," while the remaining 35% have an "insecure attachment style."
Jealousy, distrust, obsession, emotional ups and downs are just some of the concerns common with an insecure attachment style. Although, by developing a deeper friendship, persons can become more securely attached and connected in spite of their earlier experiences. Suggestions for developing a deeper connection include, spending more time doing things both partners enjoy, checking in on new interests, share likes and dislikes routinely, as people change and evolve indefinitely. Actively appreciating one another also enhances a fulfilling relationship, by genuinely regarding and noting those characteristics and abilities
in each other we often take
for granted over time.
